Skiathoscombine both elements from a Greek traditional φωτοβολταικα island and from traditional continental villages. The architectural characteristics are very special. Small houses each one next to the other, usually storey and made of stone. People use lime to paint their houses. There are two types of houses, simple farms and mansions.Roads around the island’s cities and villages are narrow made out of stones too. Many roads end up in small square where people usually gather, like a church or a spring. Like every single place on earth Skiathos has its own traditional dresses and clothes. Men used to wear breeches and a long fez.Women on the other hand used to wear a shirt under their clothes. It was very long; it reaches the knees and had very distinguished wide sleeves.on top of the shirt they wear a flannel usually white. It had two little buttons on the neck and they were made of wool. They also had handmade socks of wool the same colour with the flannel. If someone was mooring she wear black flannel and socks too. All of Skiathos traditional songs are like poems. They always tell a story. They firstwas composed around middle age. Kamarais the most distinguished song of Skiathos. It was sung by women during the φωτοβολταικα τιμες traditional dances of Skiathos, especially when they were celebrating Easter and Saint George’s feast. The first dances were performed in Kastro and after in other areas.
